How to arrange a shatnez check

Start with a qualified checking service and your exact garment. A fabric label or a previous owner’s assurance is not a substitute for the guidance of your rav and checker.

Can the site tell me whether my coat needs checking?

No. Ask your rav or a qualified shatnez checker about the particular garment. This page helps arrange the service.

Before you call

  • Garment type and brand
  • Details of any alterations or earlier checks
  • Actual deadline and collection availability
  • Your rav’s instructions, if any
Full guide

Before you travel

Describe the coat, suit, or other garment, including lining, alterations, and any previous inspection. Ask whether the checker handles that item and what needs to be brought. If your deadline is Thursday, state the actual calendar date.

At drop-off

Confirm the inspection fee, expected collection time, labeling or receipt procedure, and whether removal or repair costs are separate. Keep a way to identify your item. Do not assume that a residential-looking address accepts walk-ins.

After the result

Ask what the written result covers and whether any repair is required. Keep the result with the garment’s records. If the garment is altered or repaired later, ask whether another check is needed.
